Hi, I'm Meredith, founder of TigerLily STEM
Science, technology, engineering, and math are more than school subjects to me - they are a large part of how I see the world. Perhaps from the outside, my STEM journey might seem idyllic - graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude, from Iowa State University, landing my first engineering internship at a Fortune 500 company as a college freshman and working in various engineering roles that have taken me all over the United States and the world.
Although I’ve experienced how rewarding STEM fields can be, I have also experienced a number of roadblocks, stigmas and frustrations which seem to disproportionately affect women interested in STEM. Throughout my education, I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum - from not connecting with the teaching method to teaching myself because I tested out of the standard class curriculum. Societally, I continue to be confronted with stereotypes about how being in a STEM field fits with being a woman.
These challenges are motivating. Please join me in creating a better experience for the next generation of women leaders in STEM.
